Hands are the first to greet each other in a meeting. They get the chance to make an impression before the rest of the person manages to ruin it.

The hand performs a small act of confidence. The rest of the person then has to improvise in order not to undermine the point.

A firm handshake is meant to signal confidence. It is remarkable how many people can simulate it precisely at the moment they lack it most.

A weak handshake is often interpreted as a sign of insecurity. In reality, it may simply be a quiet refusal to participate in a competition the other side did not even know had begun.

Sweaty palms signal stress. Or simply weather that has decided to cooperate with the least generous possible interpretation.

The one who lets go first, for reasons not entirely clear, tends to gain control of the entire situation.

It seems that within two seconds, a silent judgment is passed on character, past, and future.
