Most people do not reason toward conclusions.
They begin with conclusions and spend the remainder of the day recruiting evidence.
An efficient system.
Provided one’s objective is self-reassurance rather than accuracy.
The method described here proposes a less fashionable alternative.
Start with what is known.
Expand only through justified transformations.
Remove what fails inspection.
Resolve contradictions before they acquire furniture and settle permanently inside the mind.
Continue until only the surviving explanation remains.
This process is called the construction of an inference tree.
Reality, despite repeated requests, continues refusing to provide certainty.
The tree compensates.

1. Axioms
🌱 The Seed
Every system begins somewhere.
Humanity has spent several thousand years attempting to avoid this inconvenience.
The effort has produced philosophy.
At the root of every inference tree lies a limited set of accepted propositions.
These are the axioms.
They define:
the informational foundation,
the boundaries of the system,
and the assumptions temporarily granted diplomatic immunity.
Without axioms, every statement requires proof.
Every proof requires another proof.
Eventually the universe ends before the argument does.
The system therefore begins with a handful of accepted truths.
Whether reality agrees is a separate discussion.

This is where inference enters.

This is where deduction separates itself from intuition.
Most people encounter an observation and immediately select an explanation.
The first explanation.
Their favorite explanation.
Usually the explanation that agrees with their existing beliefs.
A remarkably convenient coincidence.
The system behaves differently.
Suppose a person avoids eye contact.
Possible explanations:
anxiety
deception
distraction
fatigue
social discomfort
cultural habit
simple disinterest
All survive initially.
None receive special treatment.
The tree permits multiple branches to exist simultaneously.
Premature certainty remains one of humanity’s most popular hobbies.
The system discourages it.
